Jem Stone is a man who needs no introduction - but hell we're gonna do it anyway! Aka Jem Panufnik, he is co-founder and the creative force behind the mighty Finger Lickin' Records, a former Soul of Man and all-round funkateer, and today he is back in full swing with this highly-anticipated, filthy, dirty funk-off of a 3-track EP.
Jem Stone's Well-Oiled Machine EP is a monstrous collection of exactly the kind of ferocious beats, spangly vibes and tantalizing grooves this legendary chap is famous for.
First up, Storm in a Teacup: a raging tribal breaks/house finger-pointing-upwards explosion of a track, not a million miles from Jem's former guise as Soul of Man but spiced with the cranked-up twisted vintage soul of his more recent output. And if that doesn't get you to spill scalding-hot splosh down your leg then nothing will.
If No Business for a Lady was a movie it would carry a certificate with so many Xs they wouldn't fit on the goddam poster. Strutting like a well-stacked dominatrix on a hell-bent mission for bones, this ballsy-brassy number pushes its red stiletto so far into your lughole it'll come out the other side. And you'll be begging for more.
Finally the EP's title track, Well-Oiled Machine, will be taking you down a dark ally via old-school Chicago to gently rob you of your final possessions and underwear, before leaving you in a crumpled yet strangely euphoric state.
All wrapped up in Jem's inimitable imagery (it is he who is responsible for Finger Lickin's iconic artwork), it's a new chapter from a man with a formidable history in breaks and beats.
Out from 11th December 2013 in the digital format of your choice ONLY at Bandcamp
