Jago - Struggling Ft. Galak Spiritual - Official Video

“Struggling feat. Galak Spiritual & Chief Rockas” / “Undercover feat. DJ Vadim” is the double A-side lead single from new signing Jago which lands 5th February on Tru Thoughts via the label’s UK Sound System Culture platform Sharp And Ready.

Serving politically conscious lyrics on a Jungle, Ragga and Dub flex, the package features collaborations from fellow onlyjoe band-member MC Galak Spiritual, reggae collective Chief Rockas, and heavyweight producer DJ Vadim.

London born Jago grew up at a time when Jungle was in its earliest forms and could be heard blaring out of doors via pirate radio stations and record shops alike. In the ‘90s, as he became more influenced by jungle and Ragga MCs on the scene, he started performing as an underground Jungle MC in clubs and at parties where he unleashed his bars into the open. Establishing himself as a reputable MC, he became one of the front-men for renowned nine-piece reggae outfit onlyjoe. Highly in-demand at the UK’s main festival spots, the band have played at Glastonbury and opened on the main stage at Boomtown Fair for Grammy Award nominated Roots-Reggae musician Julian Marley.

So far Jago has released music as a writer, producer and vocalist on labels such as Big Dada, Unit137, Moonshine, Irish Moss, Reggae Roast, Dub-Stuy, as well as number of self-releases. Acquiring tastemaker support and spins from notable DJs, he has caught the attention of David Rodigan (BBC 1Xtra), Don Letts (BBC 6Music), Huey Morgan (BBC 6Music), Crises (SUB FM), Get Darker and also gained online props from the likes of Clash and Reggaeville.

Jago signed to Tru Thoughts in 2015 with plans to release his debut album ‘Microphones And Sofas’ (out 19th February), which reveals his creative potential as a writer, producer and MC. For the record, he hooked up studio time with familiar names from Unit 137 Sound System and Sharp And Ready - including Sleepy Time Ghost, Ed West, Hylu, Ghost Writerz, and Bahia - alongside the likes of Chief Rockas, to highlight some of the most progressive MCs, producers & DJs working in the current UK Dub, Reggae and Dancehall scene today.
